JOE MAILANDER DIES AT ATLANTIC JULY 2

Joe Mailander 76, retired Wiota farmer, died July 2 at his home in Atlantic. Mr. Mailander had been in failing health for some time.

He was born near Dana, Ill., May 18, 1886, the son of Henry and Ellen Herchenroth Mailander and came to a farm near Wiota with his parents when he was three years old. He grew to manhood there and was married by the Rev. Fr. Sinne to Alice Malone in Omaha, Nov. 14, 1912. They farmed in the Wiota vicinity until moving to Atlantic in 1947.

Mr. Mailander was prominent as a boxer and wrestler when a young man. He was a member of St. Peter and Paul’s Catholic church.

Surviving are his wife and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Mary Morgan and Mrs. Anna Williamson and four brothers, Henry, William, Pete and Gus Mailander.

Funeral services were held Thursday morning at 9:30 at St. Peter and Paul’s Catholic church with Fr. Robert L. Weis officiating. Interment was in the Atlantic Catholic cemetery
