Edward Maher Dead

This community was unprepared for the shock received when word was passed from lip to lip yesterday morning announcing the death of Edward Maher at the Mitchell hospital. Mr. Maher had been in good health and conducted his farming operations all season. Friday he was taken suddenly ill and on Saturday was removed to the hospital where on Sunday morning it was decided by attending physicians to operate for appendicitis. Death followed at about one o'clock Monday morning.

Funeral services will be held from the Catholic Church tomorrow morning at ten o'clock.

Edward Maher was born in Cass county IA in 1881 and came to SD with the family in 1903, locating at Alexandria where he was united in marriage in 1910 to Miss Nona Ryan, moving soon after to Aurora county. Deceased is survived by a devoted wife, three sisters and four brothers: Mrs. Arthur Anderson, Mrs. Anthony Brannigan, Miss Anna and Henry of his county. Will of Woonsocket and Dan and Tom of Dell Rapids.

In the death of Edward Maher Aurora county loses one of her very best citizens and the community where he resided north of town will henceforth miss the society of a mighty fine neighbor who was never found lacking when a willing hand oft times made life's pathways more easy to follow. There will henceforth be a vacant spot at the community gatherings in this city where one and all, old and young, were ever accustomed to meet the glad greetings and pleasant smiles of "Ed" Maher. In our feeble manner the Herald extends sympathy to the heart broken wife and loving sisters and brothers in this, one of the saddest stages along life's journey.

NOTE FROM CONTRIBUTOR: Edward Maher was born January 6, 1879 and died July 27, 1925.
