Claude Malone, Atlantic Seed Dealer, Dies

Claude R. Malone, 75, longtime Atlantic seed dealer, died early Friday at his home, 802 Spruce.

Mr. Malone was the owner of Malone Seed Company and had been a seed salesman all of his life. He formerly was a member of the Atlantic Community School District board of education for 12 years, an active member of the Iowa Seed Dealers Association and was a member of the United Church of Christ and the Atlantic Elks Lodge.

The son of Charles Edward and Edna Estelle Harris Malone, he was born July 21, 1909, north of Atlantic and graduated from the Atlantic High School in 1927. He was married to Florence Durr Aug. 9, 1933 in Des Moines.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, C. Fred Malone and his wife, Sara, of New Market and Carl P. Malone and his wife, June, of Milford, Ill.; five grandchildren, Craig, Chris and Cathleen, Christine and Cory Malone; a great-grandchild, Curtis Malone; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Malone.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Cecil Malone.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Roland Funeral Home, with the Rev. Sandy Wainwright of the United Church of Christ officiating. Interment will be in the Atlantic Cemetery.

A visitation will be held from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
