Alexander Wallace

Alexander Wallace, long time resident of Cass county, and veteran of the Civil war, died at 4 o’clock Sunday afternoon at his home, 107 Cedar street, after an illness of some duration. He was in his 89th year.

Mr. Wallace was born April 19, 1838, in Philadelphia, being a son of Mr. and Mrs. William Wallace. When a small boy his father moved to Chilicothe [Chillicothe], Ill., and there Mr. Wallace enlisted in Company B. First regiment of the U. S. engineers. He enlisted in August of 1862 and served till the end of the war, being mustered out June 30, 1865, at Nashville, Tenn.

After the war the family came to Cass county, settling near Marne. On February 12, 1882, deceased was married to Miss Sarah Fudge, and to his union four children were born. The children are: Mrs. Edgar Taylor, Denver, Colo.; Harry Wallace, Omaha; Ray Wallace and Mrs. Homer Gaines, of this city. Mrs. Wallace died four years ago. One brother, T. R. Wallace, formerly of the U. S. consular service, also survives. Deceased was a member of the local G. A. R. post.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Young undertaking parlors, Whitley bank building, the Rev. George D. Rodgers of the Baptist church officiating, and interment will be made in the Atlantic cemetery.
