DAVID BURKEY, 86, LONG TIME LOCAL RESIDENT, DIES

Complications of Paralytic Stroke Fatal to Well Known Retired Farmer.

David Burkey, 86, long time resident of Atlantic and a retired farmer, passed away at 2:30 yesterday afternoon at his home, 607 Cedar street, from complications of a paralytic stroke which he suffered about a year ago. He had been bedfast for several weeks.

Mr. Burkey was born at Elkhart, Ind., on Aug. 13, 1846, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Burkey. He was united in marriage to Miss Catherine Burgen in Clinton county, Ia., on March 23, 1869. In 1872 they moved to a farm south of Walnut and resided there until 1897 when they retired from farming and moved to this city, living here since.

The Survivors.

Mr. Burkey is survived by his wife, two sons, John and William Burkey of Walnut, and one daughter, Mrs. William Berry of Atlantic. Two brothers, Henry Burkey of Casey and Marion Burkey of Mankato, Ia., and two sisters, Mrs. Martha Methene of Mankato and Mrs. Sarah Sudler of Grant, also survive.

Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 11 o’clock at the local Methodist Episcopal church with the Rev. L. M. Grigsby officiating. Interment will be in the Walnut cemetery.
