Hugo Paasch, 67, Dies From Injuries

WALNUT – Hugo Paasch, 67, died at 8:25 p.m. Wednesday at the Atlantic Memorial hospital from injuries suffered that afternoon when a tractor ran over him at his farm southeast of here.

He had cranked the tractor apparently when it was in gear. The tractor started up a cultivator hooked to the tractor knocking him down and the tractor ran over him. He suffered a crushed chest.

Paasch was found by his son, Ronald, who lives on the family farm, and a hired man, Earl Mueller.

Surviving are his wife, Mildred, and son Ronald.

The body will lie in state at Berthusen’s funeral home and services are pending.

Set Rites For Hugo Paasch

WALNUT – Last rites for Hugo Lorenz Paasch, 68, who died from injuries suffered in a tractor accident Wednesday, will be held at 2 p.m. at the Presbyterian church Saturday with the Revs. William Kuechmann and John DeBerg officiating and burial in the Walnut cemetery. American Legion will conduct military rites and Berthusen funeral home is in charge.

Mr. Paasch was born in Shelby county, May 8, 1895, the son of Henry and Anna Hansen Paasch and had spent all of his life in this area. He served with the air force overseas during World war I and was a member of the Presbyterian church, American Legion, Angus Cattle association and a past 4-H club leader. He was married to Mildred Burkey in Council Bluffs in 1924.

Surviving besides his wife are two children, Ronald at home, and Mrs. Shirley Lepper [Leeper} of Eagle Grove; one grandchild; two sisters, Mrs. Alevina Jacobs of Melestone [Milestone], Sask., Canada, and Mrs Arthur Lebeck of Walnut, and a brother, August of Walnut.

The body will lie in state at the Berthusen funeral home where the family will meet friends tonight at 8 o’clock.
