Dean Ledgerwood, Local Automobile Man, Dies After A Long Sickness

Dean Ledgerwood, well known young automobile mechanic of this city, died Saturday evening at 11:30 at a local hospital, where he several weeks ago was operated on for an attack of acute appendicitis.

The young man’s life hung on a thread for days preceding his death. His wife, who was Miss Jessie Berry of Washington township, his mother, Mrs. Hugh Ledgerwood, and his sister Eva and brother Archie were at his bedside when death came.

Mr. Ledgerwood came to Atlantic five years ago and engaged in the automobile repairing business with Everett V. Bailey. Later the partnership was dissolved and Ledgerwood continued in business alone. He was 23, a native of Nodaway county, Missouri. His mother, who is a widow, resides at Maryville, Mo.

On August 15, 1918, the young man entered the world war service, being made a sargeant [sergeant] in the motor transport service. He was stationed at different timees [times] at Camp Jesup, Ga., and Camp Holabird, Md.

Besides the wife and mother, there are three sisters and three brothers surviving.

Short services will be held at the home, 305 Oak street, at 2 p.m. Tuesday, followed by services at the Congregational church at 2:30. The Rev. J. K. Driver will conduct the services at the church and the American Legion at the grave.

Former service men are requested to meet at the Granville shoe store at 2 o’clock to attend the funeral. They are requested to be in uniform.
