September 26, 1887Burial of John A. Collins.
The funeral services of the late John A. Collins were held Sunday afternoon at the old farm where Mr. Collins settled in 1863. The sermon was by Rev. Dr. Bevan. The pall bearers were Dr. Slaughter, Edward Butler, M. C. Gill, W. H. Saunders, Jas. A. Harris and H. C. Smith. The precession was over one-half mile in length.

Some facts as to the life of the late John A. Collins may interest our readers He was born in Campbell county, Va., March 7, 1827. He was married October 18, 1854 to Mary Jane Lynch; had four sons and five daughters, all of whom survive him. Mr. Collins became a resident of Indiana in 1856. In 1863 he settled in Cass county, Iowa, on the farm on which he died. He was a peaceful, quiet, neighborly man, greatly esteemed by those who knew him. He had frequent talks with his family before his death, and bade all an affectionate farewell.
