Expires While Sitting in His Chair at Home, Heart Disease Being the Cause of His Death.
While sitting in his chair at home at 8:30 Sunday morning George S. Acker, well known in this county, and respected by all who knew him, was claimed by death and passed away, heart disease being the cause of his demise. Deceased had been ill for a little over a week but was getting better and his death was a shock to his family and many friends. He had been troubled with his heart for about twenty-five years but the ailment had never been bad and he had never treated for it.
Mr. Acker came to Cass county twenty-eight years ago and for thirteen years made his home north of town, removing from there to the house where he died, six miles southeast of the city where he had lived for fifteen years. He was born in Pennsylvania and would have been seventy years of age in April. He was at one time a member of the I. O. O. F. lodge, but of late years had not been active in the organization.
Mr. Acker is survived by his wife and eleven children, ten sons and one daughter. The children are T. W. Acker, Mrs. E. E. Harris, Clel M. Acker, H. C. Acker of this county; Harry M. Acker of Avoca; Jake F. Acker of Oelwein; Chas. H. Acker and Clarence Acker of Chicago; Ed Acker and J. C. Acker of Hoboken, N. J. and Walter S. Acker of Las Vegas, N. M. He also leaves four sisters. All of his children have been notified of his death and are expected here to attend the funeral.
Mr. Acker was a man whom to know was to like. His was one of those rugged natures in which honesty and straightforwardness are inherent qualities. This paper has enjoyed the friendship of deceased for many years and joins with the many who knew and loved him in expressing sorrow at his death. A kindly generous man who sought to live his life cleanly and to do by his neighbor as he would be done by, the world which knew him has sustained a keen loss in his passing.
