BROADFOOT WAS PROMINENT MAN

Rev. A. Broadfoot, Who Recently Died At Berea, Was Prominent There and Well Known. History of His Life

Alexander Broadfoot, son of James and Jeanette Morrison Broadfoot, was born at Seaforth, Ontario, February 23rd, 1850, and passed away at his home, near Berea, Iowa, June 22nd, 1916, aged 66 years, 4 months and 29 days.

He was one of a family of eleven children, of whom, four brothers and three sisters survive him. He was married at Seaforth, Ontario, June 19th, 1869, to Jane Thorpe, who survives him. To this union six children were born, one a daughter, dying at the age of 16 months; those remaining to mourn his departure are James M. of Berea, John A. of Swarthmore, Saskatchewan, Canada, Mrs. Bert Butler of Atlantic, Mrs. F. R. Miller of Des Moines and Erskine of Berea. He also leaves six grandchildren, Acile, Grace and Vera, daughters of James M. Broadfoot and wife, Lois and Lorene, daughters of John A. Broadfoot and wife, and Aletha Fay, daughter of Bert L. Butler and wife.

He and his family moved from the place of his birth to Dickinson county, Kansas, in 1872, living there until November, 1881, when they moved to Henry county, Iowa. On March 1st, 1884, they came to Eureka township, Adair county, living there until 1899, when they moved to Atlantic, where they made their home for five and a half years and then returned to the farm home near Berea, where they lived until his death.

Mr. Broadfoot was saved by the grace of God when a young man and for over forty years it was his delight to preach the gospel of God’s grace to poor, needy sinners, many of whom were led to Christ through his instrumentality. Mr. Broadfoot met with believers simply in the Name of Our Lord Jesus Christ and will be greatly missed by many who loved and respected him. The comforting thought to all of his relatives and friends is, that he has departed to be with Christ which is far better.

The funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Anita, at 1:30 P. M. Sunday, June 26th, 1916, and were conducted by A. N. O’Brien of Duluth, Minnesota, assisted by D. R. Charles of Omaha, the attendance being very large. The interment was in the Atlantic Cemetery. During his many years residence in this neighborhood he made many friends, by his strict integrity and kindly disposition, by whom he will be greatly missed.
