GEO. H. BERRY DIED AT 3 P.M.

WELL KNOWN RESIDENT

Suffered From Grip Which Finally Developed Into Case of Pneumonia and Caused Death

Mr. George H. Berry passed away at his home 509 Mulberry street at 3:30 this morning from pneumonia after a short illness, being bedfast only a few days. Week before last he was confined a short time with the grippe but seemingly recovered and was able to be down town. Last Tuesday he suffered a relapse and was forced to his bed for the last time.

Mr. Berry was born Oct. 20, 1841 at Petersburg, Ill., Maynard [Menard] county, being the son of James O. Berry and wife. He lived on a farm there until he, was forty years of age when he moved to Nodaway county, Missouri where he lived ten years near Burlington Junction. From there he moved to this county buying eighty acres of land about one and one-half miles southeast of this city were he resided until ten years ago when he moved to town. He lived for two years just east of the nursery and then moved to 509 Mulberry street where he has since resided.

He was married in the spring of 1862 to Mary J. Nanco at Petersburg Illinois. Mrs. Berry and the six children survive the deceased. The children are as follows: M. A. Berry of Lincoln, Neb., Sam Berry, sheriff of Cass county; Mrs. Joe Blake of this city, J. N. Berry, part owner of the Steam Laundry, A. M. Berry, living east of the city and T. A. Berry of Cumberland. The grandchildren are: Miss Burrell Berry daughter of M. A. Berry, of Lincoln, Neb. Mildred, Bee, Niles and Bruce Blake children of Mrs. Joe Blake; Clarence Berry son of Ira Berry, and three children of T. A. Berry of Cumberland, Clifford, Roger and Evaline. There are no great grandchildren.

Deceased has three brothers living in this vicinity. They are J. W., A. F., and R. A. Another brother, S. C. died several years ago.

There are many nephews and nieces in this community. The children of R. A. Berry are: Ora, Mrs. Wm. Barnard, Zeta, Mrs. Ina Allen, wife of Howard Allen, Mrs. Eva Collier, wife of Geo. Collier, and Mrs. Myrtle Neal of Randolph, Neb. The children of A. F. Berry are G. W. living in Montana, E. A., of Colorado[,] Mrs. Luticia Trailer of South Dakota and Frank Berry of Atlantic. The children of J. W. Berry are: Mollie Peterson of Anita, W. B. Berry west of town, R. A. Berry, jr., Atlantic, Mrs. Cordelia Burkey, Walnut, Ia., and Mrs. Iona Dunham of Portland, Oregon. The children of S. C. Berry deceased are: James H., Armour, S. D., J. B., Atlantic; C. T., Belmont S. D.,: W. F., Lewis, Ira and Sam, Belmont, S. D.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Goodell of this city are related to the deceased, Mr. Goodell’s mother being a sister of Mrs. G. H. Berry.

Mr. Berry had been a member of the A.O. U. W. lodge and the Masonic order in this city for a number of years.

The funeral will be held Wednesday at 10:30 at the house, Rev. A. E. Griffith of the M. E. church of [Atlantic.] [(repeat) day at 10:30 at the house,] Interment will be in the Atlantic cemetery. The pallbearers will be Burnea Malone, Lum Prall, D. W. Smart, Jim Moreland, I. V. Conine, Wm. Sheperd.
