The funeral of Miss Alta Berry was held from the M. P. church in Marne Saturday and the remains were buried in the Marne cemetery. Rev. E. S. Brown, the former pastor of the church, came from Bussey, Iowa, to preach the funeral sermon. The attendance was very large. Many floral tributes surrounded the casket including one from the Order of the Eastern Star, the mother of the deceased being worthy matron of that order. The Degree of Honor also showed their sympathy by a beautiful floral offering.
The Misses Vernie Marvin, Blanch Squires, Anna Greve, Vena Remien, Nellie Wheatly and Gertie Peterson acted as honorary pall bearers and Roy Marvin, Clarence Squires, Homer Turner, Wilbur Sarsfield, Harvey Turner, and Ira Allen active pall bearers. The Remains were followed to their last resting place by a large number of mourning friends.
Miss Alta, the 17 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Berry, died of appendicitis about 5 o’clock Thursday evening. After an illness of only about one week. She was a bright young lady and a general favorite among a large class of acquaintances. Her going will leave a very lonely home where she was the pride and joy of the family.
