Obituary

IDA MAY MALONE, wife of Thos. L. Malone died at her home in Wiota, Cass county, Iowa, Thursday, November 16, 1899; aged 39 years, 5 months and 14 days.

Ida May Terbush, eldest daughter of Wm. C. and Mary Terbush, was born near Galesburg, Illinois, June 2nd, 1860. Her parents moved to Iowa when she was ten years of age, and settled near Wiota, in this county, where she grew to lovely womanhood. After finishing her education, she engaged in school teaching, and was numbered among Cass county’s most popular and successful teachers, She was united in marriage to Thos. L. Malone, April 11th, 1882; and to this happy union three children were born; Clyde, aged 16 years, and Ona May, aged 6 years; a little son dying in infancy a few years ago.

Brief services were held at her late home on Saturday, November 18th, 1899, conducted by Rev. Smith, after which the remains were conveyed to Atlantic Cemetery and laid to rest in the family lot, followed by sorrowing relatives and friends.

The death of Mrs. Malone has cast a deep gloom over this community, where for may years she moved among the people, performing, without ostentation, many acts of kindness, love and affection which have endeared her to the hearts of those who now mourn the loss of wife, mother, daughter, sister, neighbor and friend. She will be missed! In the home, as wife and mother; one to whom future plans could be submitted, hearts unbosomed and affection bestowed. Home is the glad resting place; a refuge where we are not misunderstood; a shelter where smiles, greetings, looks, attention and all little mementoes that make life pleasant, breathe to our very
beings the spirit of supreme happiness and contentment. No words can hush and soothe like a mother’s; no voice can counsel and teach as mother could; and the love for near and dear ones, in her every word and action, will never be forgotten by the child who has once know the boundless love of Mother. The light of the true home is wife and mother; but when she is gone, darkness comes and she is missed. If death ends all, if there were no hope for future existence, we could not understand the sad separations which come to our homes. The passing away of loved ones is not an eternal sleep, -- a snuffing out of the lamp of life forever, -- but a brief separation which will ultimately bring us to a joyful meeting, “ In that house not made with hands, eternal in the Heavens.”

Dreams of childhood, and the moment
When I stood your wife and bride—
How my heart thrilled with Love’s triumph
In that hour of woman’s pride.

Dreams of thee and all the earth-cords
Firmly twined about my heart—
Oh! the bitter, burning anguish.
Now I know that we must part.

Fare thee well, my dearest husband;
Faint not ‘neath the chastening rod;
Put your strong arms ‘round our children,
Keep them close to thee – and God.

-------------

After one week of suffering , a husband, son and a dear little daughter are left, with many friends, to mourn the loss of our dear departed sister of the Circle of Kings’ Daughters, Mrs. Ida May Malone. She was our leader for one short year. She launched our boat, but the oars have been dropped and we must take them up and push out into the darkness and gloom, but with God as our light we hope to take up the work where sister Ida left off, and, in safety reach the other shore, and join again the daughters of our King; when we will find “Light after darkness”; “Gain after loss”; “ Strength after weakness,” “ Crown after cross.” “Near after distant, gleam after gloom, Love after lonliness [loneliness], life after tomb; After long agony, raptures of bliss, Right was the pathway, leading to this.”

-- A Sister of the Circle
