May 29, 1947Thomas J. Maher died May 24 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. M. Forette. He was in Somerset, N. Y., in 1864 and moved to Kansas to the town of Reding and then moved to Cass county, Iowa, with his parents and lived and grew to manhood. He helped to build railroads in Nebraska and Wyoming for two years, return to Cass county where, he married Emma Malone in 1894. To this union was born one daughter, Mrs. W. M. Forrette.
In 1907 he moved to Alexandria, S. Dak., where he engaged in farming.
In 1916 he moved to Dell Rapids where he again was engaged road building until he moved to Storm Lake in 1931 where they lived with his daughter and son-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Forrette. He has two brothers, Dan Maher of Dell Rapids aand [and] Wm. Maher of Sioux Falls; two sisters, Anna of Plankinton, S. Dak., and Nellie Brannigan of Hastings, Nebr.
Mr. Maher had been ill for four years. Through his suffering he was cheerful and ever a true friend. A solemn requiem high mass was said in St. Mary’s Catholic church. Burial was in Storm Lake Wednesday morning, May 28, at 10 o’clock.
Msgr. C. J. Ivis celebrated the mass, with Father Leo Harpenau as deacon and Father A. S. Grady of Schaller, sub-deacon. Bearers were O. B. Kelley, Clarence Wright, Henry Demer, Ed Duffy, Richard Burns and George Quirk. FitzPatrick Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
