Dorothy Margie Tyler was born April 5, 1925, in Carbon, Iowa, the daughter of Hiram M. and Emelia (Johnson) Hendrickson and passed away Saturday, May 14, 2011, at the Cass County Hospice Center in Atlantic, Iowa.

She grew up on the farm near Strand, Iowa, and graduated from the Villisca High School in 1943. Dottie married James Richard Tyler June 1, 1947, at the Methodist Church in Villisca, Iowa. She lived most of her married life in Atlantic, moving there in 1949. Dottie was a homemaker, devoting her life to caring for her husband and children. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and Chapter AF of PEO. Dottie was an avid sports fan, and loved following the Iowa Hawkeyes.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hiram and Emelia Hendrickson; her sisters, Agnes, Ruby, Mary, Verna, her twin sister Doris and Anneva; her brother, Lloyd; and her parents-in-law, Harry and Lois Tyler.

Dottie is survived by her husband, Jim Tyler of Atlantic; her children, Amy (John) Deardorff of Omaha, Nebraska, Jayne Tyler of Atlantic, LuAnn (Bob) Roby of Hiawatha, Iowa, Kirk (Janel) Tyler of Waukee, Iowa, Sue (David) Rawlins of Twin Lakes, Wisconsin; her grandchildren, Beth and Tyler Deardorff of Omaha, Nebraska, Ryan (Abbey) Tyler of Clive, Iowa, and Jill Thielen of West Des Moines, Iowa, Andrew and Zachary Roby of Hiawatha, Iowa, Jessica (Rob) Feeney of New York and Jay Tyler of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Michael and James Rawlins of Twin Lakes, Wisconsin.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic, Iowa. A private family burial will be held in the Atlantic Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday, May 16, 2011, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic.

Memorials may be made to the Holden Cancer Center at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, the Strand Lutheran Church, St. Paul's Lutheran Church or the Heritage House
