L. Budd and wife, at Sixth and Maple streets, this city. Death was the result of the breaking up of age and came after an illness of some weeks' duration. He was in his 85th year.

Born In New York State.
Mr. Beers was born at Hamden Hill, New York, on the 30th of September, 1838, being the son of Miles and Rachel Beers. He came to Audubon county in 1854, settling in the vicinity of what is now the town of Brayton. He taught school in the new territory and was the first county surveyor. He was married on the 30th of August, 1870 in this city to Lela N. Heath, who died in 1900 and he was married the second time, on the 24th of December, 1902, to Josephine Leigan, who died on the 2nd of November, 1916. He had made his home the most of the time since his second wife's death with his daughter, Mrs. C. I. Dimmick of Brayton.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Budd of this city, at whose home he died, and Mrs. Dimmick of Brayton. A son, Lona Beers, died in 1907. There are seven grand children, one great grand child and several step children. Mr. Beers was a remarkable man, remembering distinctly events of three quarters of a century ago and reading the finest print without the aid of glasses.
