Mr. and Mrs. George Wieland and
Frank Thielen were in Atlantic on
Monday to visit William Thielen, who
returned Monday from Rochester,
Minnesota, where he went to consult
doctors. It is reported that Mr. Thiel-

Man Died in Omaha Hos-
pital After Long Illness--------
William Thielen, well known
resident of Atlantic, died ear(l)y Wed-
nesday morning at Immanual hos-
pital in Omaha following an illness
of almost a year. Death was due
to cancer.Mr. Thielen was born in Obers-
gegen, Rhine Province, Germany,
June 12, 1856, and came to the
United States when 18 years of
age. He settled on an 80-acre farm
three and one-half miles south of
Exira in 1880. He was married
to Tressie Frost at Waterloo on
August 31, 1883, and to this union
twelve children were born, five of
them having preceded the father
in death.Surviving are his widow, three
daughters and four sons. The
children are Mrs. Anna Wieland
of Exira, Mrs. J. C. Neiens of
Anita., Mrs. Joseph Bintner of
Exira, Herbert Thielen of Carroll,
Peter J. Thielen of Templeton,
Frank Thielen of Exira and Wil-
liam, Jr., of Atlantic. Two broth-
ers, Bernard Thielen of Chanute,
Kansas, and Dr. M. H. Thielen of
Grundy Center, and two sisters,
Mrs. Anna Bastendorf of Jackson,
Minnesota, and Mrs. Mary Hock-
statter of Effingham, Kansas, al-
so survive.Mr. Thielen was a member of the
Atlantic council Knights of Col-
umbus and of the SS. Peter and
Paul Catholic church of Atlantic.
He owned a large amount of land
in this county, approximately 1500
acres. The family home had been
in Atlantic for the past 15 years.Funeral services will be held at
the Atlantic Catholic church Fri-
day morning at 9 o'clock wih the
Rev. Fr. P. N. McDermott in
charge. Burial will be in the Exira

Mr. and Mrs. John Kilworth at-
tended the funeral of Will Thielen
held in Atlantic last Friday.Note: Parents of William "Will" Thielen were Wilhelm Thielen and Susan Hargarten. He was married to Thressa Angeline "Tressie" Frost.
