J.H. M'Farland, Pioneer, Is Dead

Came to Iowa When a Boy and Had Been Resident of Cass County For Thirty-eight Years. Was 73 Years Old.

John H. McFarland, a resident of Cass county for thirty-eight years, died Saturday at 11:30 p.m. at the family home at 907 Hazel Street. Mr. McFarland was 73.

Mr. McFarland's death was caused by a combination of Brights disease and heart trouble. He had been in poor health for a year, his most recent illness being about two weeks.

Born in Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania was the birthplace of Mr. McFarland. When a lad his family came west, settling in Johnston County, Iowa.

Mr. McFarland was married in Johnson County. Later he and his wife came to Cass County and settled on a farm. They followed farming until fourteen years ago when they retired and came to Atlantic to reside.

Besides the widow, five sons and daughters survive Mr. McFarland. They are Mrs. C.W. Harris, Mrs. J.B. Butler, A.O., C.A. and R.E. McFarland, all residents of Atlantic or in the immediate vicinity.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1:30 at the Methodist church, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. F. W. Simpson. Burial will be in the Atlantic cemetery.
