Roscoe Jones, Atlantic Attorney, Dies

Funeral services for Roscoe S. Jones, 71, Atlantic attorney were held Saturday, Jan. 6, at the Roland Funeral Home. Rev. John Lippencott officiated.

Mrs. Lowell Diggs, organist, played the selections “How Great Thou Art” and “In the Garden.” Mr. and Mrs. Jack Lang and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Ronfelt Jr., were in charge of the flowers.

Casket bearers were Chauncy Carl, Boyd Cambridge, Ron Feilmeyer, Roland Landsness, Terry Rutherford and Virl Anderson. Burial was in the Atlantic Cemetery.

Mr. Jones, son of Samuel and Grace Lloyd Jones, was born on a farm northeast of Atlantic, Mar. 9, 1901, and passes away Wednesday evening, Jan 3, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital a few hours after being admitted. He graduated from the Atlantic High School in 1919 and was married to Thelma K. Dickinson Aug. 14, 1929, at Whiting, Ind.

He lived most of his life in Atlantic and was active in community affairs. he was a lifetime member of the Atlantic Methodist church, member of all Masonic bodies, BPOE Elks, Atlantic Rotary Club, American Bar Association, Iowa State Bar, Association, Cass County Bar Association and chairman of the board of the Cass County Memorial Hospital. He was also the local attorney for the Rock Island and Burlington railroads.

Mr. Jones was graduated from the University of Iowa and was admitted to the Iowa Bar in 1924 and also federal practice. He was secretary to Gov. Dan Turner in 1931-33 and held a number of positions within the legal profession. Mr. Jones was quite active in affairs of the Republican party and was the senior member of the firm of Jones, Cambridge, Carl and Feilmeyer.

He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Mrs. James (Judy) Russell of Eau Clair, Wis. and a grandson, Douglass James Russell. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Glenn and Ralph Jones.
