RITES HELD FOR JOHN EUKEN, 84

John J. Euken, 84, a life long resident of this vicinity, died Jan. 5, at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, where he had been a patient the past two weeks.

The son of Emke and Elsie Luebben Euken, he was born Sept. 27, 1888, in Union township, Cass County, Ia. On Dec. 12, 1917, he was united in marriage to Amanda Sothman. He farmed in this area until his retirement, when he moved to Cumberland.

Mr. Euken resided at the Atlantic Nursing Home in Atlantic since last February. He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church northeast of Cumberland.

He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Wray Wollenhaupt of Massena, Mrs. Malcom Pollock of Atlantic, and Mrs. Vernon Lensch of Cumberland.
He was preceded in death by his wife, May 7, 1958, a sister Emma and a grandchild.

Funeral services were held at First Evangelical Lutheran church, Monday, Jan. 8, at 1:30 p.m., with Rev. Herbert W. Schmidt officating.
Kathy Zimmerman, accompanied by Mrs. Don Steffens, sang “I’m But a Stranger Here” and ”Beautiful Savior”. The flowers were in charge of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Rathmen and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Heeren.

Casket bearers were grandsons: Leland Lensch, Gary Lensch, Eldon Hunsicker, Emery Lensch, Ronald Wollenhaupt and Donald Wollenhaupt. Burial was made in the Lutheran Cemetery, with Hodges Funeral Home in charge,
