S E Shannon, who was mysteriously hurt last Saturday evening in Des Moines, died at a hospital in that city last evening at 6:30 oclock without ever having regained consciousness. the manner of his having been injured will, therefore, likely always remain a mytstery. Mr Shannon was found in an alley with one of his hips broken and his skull injured. The accepted theory of the accident is that Mr shannon was struck by an automobile and that the driver thereof dragged him into the alley and left him.

He went out from Iowa to the Civil War in response to the call for volunteers. he served thru the war with credit and at its close was honorably discharged. Mr Shannon has been actively interested in the GAR and was on his way to attend a meeting of that order when he was injured. he was a member of the Soldiers Relief Comm for some time and resigned when he went to Des Moines.
Soon after the war, mr Shannon was married to Miss Eliza Hughart and they lived in madison county until 1880 when they came to Cass County and settled on a farm near Wiota. About twlve years ago Mr Shannon and family moved to this city and made their home here until about a year ago, when they moved to Des Moines. Ten children survive Mr Shannon and they with the wife were present at his bedside at the time of death, with the exception of Mrs S H Kirk of this city, who is ill.
