Atlantic News Telegraph, Sat, July 21, 1934, “Rites Held for Harry Holaday, 53, at Massena
Massena, Ia., July 21 – (Special) – Funeral services for Harry Holaday, 53, former barber here, who died Tuesday at his home in Red Oak, were held at 2 o’clock this afternoon at the Red Oak Church of Christ. Burial was at Massena Center cemetery near here. Short rites were conducted at the grave by the Red Oak Masonic lodge. Complications from which had been suffering for several weeks caused his death. Mr. Holaday, a son of Almyra and Samuel Holaday was born in Massena Township, Cass County, Jan. 11, 1881. He was married to Miss Ethel Matthews November 6, 1906. One son, Glen Holaday of Des Moines, survives of this union. Mrs. Holaday died Aug. 7, 1907. In December 1909 Mr. Holaday was married to Miss Clara Johnson. And two sons, Howard of California and Harold of Minnesota survive. Mr. Holaday also leaves four brothers, Roy and Thad Holaday of Massena, Charles of Greenfield and Jesse of Atlantic and one sister, Mrs. Blanche Fullman of Massena. Two sisters, Mrs. Myra Edwards and Mrs. Gertie McCurdy and one brother George Holaday preceded him in death. With the exception of a year spent in Colorado and nine years spent at Frontier, Neb., Mr. Holaday had lived at Massena and Red Oak all his life. He moved from here to Red Oak several years ago.”
