1925 -- [TRANSCRIBED by Larry A. Nelson]: Front page, ATLANTIC NEWS TELEGRAPH, Monday, July 27, 1925: "PIONEER RESIDENT OF CASS COUNTY DIES YESTERDAY -- Mrs. Julian Nelson, 86, Dies at Farm on Which She Resided for Past 54 Years. Mrs. Julian Nelson, Cass Pioneer, wife of the late Martin Nelson who passed away at his home north of the city on July 11, died at the family home last evening at 7:30, death resulting from old age. At the time of her death, Mrs. Nelson was eighty-six years, three months, and one day old, and she and her late husband had lived on the farm on which they both passed away, for the past fifty-four years, they coming here when the country was an unsettled prairie. Mrs. Nelson was born in Denmark on April 25, 1839. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hans Nelsen. In 1861, she was married to Martin Nelson, and in 1865 [ed. 1862] the couple moved to this country , soon after coming to Iowa, making their home north of the city. The deceased is survived by nine children, Mrs. Anna Tole, Omaha; J. H. Nelson, Portland, Ore.; Mrs. Peter Knutsen, Atlantic; Mrs. E. Baltzer, Omaha; William Nelson, Atlantic; C. A. Nelson, Atlantic; Mrs. E. A. Larsen, Macksburg, Ia.; Ed Nelson, Atlantic; and Walter Nelson, of Atlantic. Mrs. Nelson has thirty great grandchildren and fourty-four grandchildren. Short funeral services will be held tomorrow at the house at 1:30 and services at 2:30 at the Oak Hill Church, with Rev. John Jensen officiating. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery."
