Gone in response to death’s call.
Died December 31, 1898, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Geo. Ostrander, of Glenwood, Iowa, Mr. Nathan R. Williams, of Passadena (sic), California, aged seventy-two years five month and twelve days.
The funeral took place on Monday, January 2, 1899, from the Presbyterian church, at Marne. Services were conducted by Rev. L. H. Humphrey of the M. E. church. The remains were laid to rest in the Marne cemetery.
Mr. N. R. Williams was born in Randolph county, Indiana, from which place he moved in early manhood to South Bend, Indiana, where he was united in marriage September 4, 1850 to Ann Inman.
After eleven years at the South Bend home the family moved to Eastern Iowa, and from there some eight years later, to Cass county, Iowa, where twenty years of useful and honored life were spent. The past four years his home has been at Passadena, California.
His faithful and loving wife, a partner of almost fifty years of his life, together with the five of the nine children born of this marriage, Mrs. Obed Blakesley, Mrs. Bruce Lewis, Mrs. George Ostrander, Miss Ada B. Williams and Miss Belle Williams, remain to mourn the loss of a kind husband and father.
At the age of thirty-five he was converted and united with the M. E. church of which he was a class leader for several years. His has been an exemplary Christian life, being an active worker in both church and Sunday school work, always striving towards a high ideal of Christian manhood, bearing his bodily sufferings with meekness and the fortitude of one stronger in body. Dying as he lived, firm in his faith, trusting all to his Savior.
To him death was no dark mystery but a peaceful passage over the river to meet the dear ones gone before and welcome those who follow.
