Double Wedding This Morning
This morning at 8 o’clock in Des Moines, at the home of Mrs. Mary E. Shannon, occurred the double nuptial event, through which Miss Margaret Jane Shannon became the bride of Mr. H. F. Harris and Miss Jessie Pearl Shannon, the bride of Mr. John E. Steinhart of Chicago.
The wedding is of interest to many friends in Atlantic, the former home of the Shannon family and of one of the bridegrooms, Mr. Harris.
The ceremony was attended by a group of immediate relatives and was performed by hte [the] Rev. L. K. Billingsley, a long time friend of the family, and formerly pastor of the Methodist church here. Immediately following, there was a wedding breakfast for the bridal party and the guests at Hotel Fort Des Moines.
Both brides are former teachers in the Atlantic schools and they have been teaching in the Des Moines schools for a number of years, since their residence in the capital city. Mrs. Harris is a graduate of Iowa State college and Miss Jessie pursued her studies at Grinnell.
Mr. Steinhart is a contractor in Chicago, and he and his bride left today by automobile, for that city to make their home.
Mr. and Mrs. Harris also left on a motor trip today, and will travel for a year, spending the summer in South Dakota, Montana, and Idaho, and winter in California.
The two brides have been the inspiration of prenuptial courtesies given by friends in the past two weeks; the concluding event was a dinner last evening at the Hyperion club in honor of the four principals in the double wedding.
