INJURED IN EXPLOSION

Harlan Rogers, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Drace Rogers west of town (Exira), was se-
verly burned about the eyes as the
result of an explosion Sunday after-
noon. Harlan was soldering a gas
tank when the explosion occurred.
He had filled the tank with water
and thinking he was through had
emptied it, when he saw a place he
wanted to finish off a little smoother.
He picked up a blow torch and turned
it on the tank and the explosion fol-
lowed in a short time. He was taken
to the office of Dr. Koob in Brayton
and then to the Atlantic hospital,
where it was found that one eye was
uninjured and that there was a fifty
fifty chance of saving the other one.

Reports were current Sunday eve-
ning stating that he had no chance of
ever seeing again, but these proved
to have no foundation. It is too bad
that Harlan should have this mis-
fortune, but it is lucky that he was
not more seriously injured.
