Third and Red Oak Was
Fourth in Points
----------

Exira Scouts won the field and
aquatic meet, held at Crystal lake,
Lewis, Wednesday of last week, in
connection with the Botna Valley Boy
Scout camp there and participated
in by nearly ninety boys. The Exira
Scouts amassed a total of 76 points,
while Atlantic was second with 51
points, Griswold third with 25, Red
Oak fourth with 6 and Oakland with 1.

High individual point winners were
Wells of Exira, with twenty, and
Lang of Atlantic, with 16. Heath of
Atlantic and Hensley of Exira each
had nine points.

Officials of the meet were Scout-
master Billy Williams of Atlantic
and Scoutmaster G. Voss of Exira.
Judges were Rev. Hill and C. D.
Thompson of Griswold and Scout-
master Strand of Red Oak. Glenn
Parmley of Atlantic acted as starter
and clerk of the meet.

It was unanimously voted by the
lads to hold the meet each year. Next
years's meet will be the first week
in August with every Scout in South-
western Iowa invited.

Rev. Hill and D. C. Thompson of
Griswold were in charge of the Gris-
wold Scouts. Assistant Scoutmaster
Glenn Parmley of Atlantic had charge
of the Atlantic Scouts and Scout-
master Voss of Exira had charge of
the local lads.

From Exira there were 12; from
Atlantic 29, Red Oak 14, Griswold 19
and Oakland 11.

The rain interfered with the base-
ball torney to have been held Thurs-
day and it was called off.

Water Carnival.

The aquatic and water carnival
was one of the interesting events of
the meet. The 55 yard swimming
race was won by Lang of Atlantic,
with Oakes of Atlantic second and
C. Wells of Exira third. The time
was 35 seconds.

In the free-for-all swim, Lang of
Atlantic also copped, Kirkpatrick of
Griswold was second and Jamieson
of Griswold was third.

In the diving contest for a rock,
Rentz of Atlantic won first.

In the fancy diving contest, Lang
of Atlantic starred as he did in all
the water events in which he was
the outstanding entrant. He won first
while C. Wells of Exira was second
and J. Basham of Exira third.

Field Events.
Results in the field events were as
follows:
50-yard-dash--F. Wells Exira, 1st;
Heath Atlantic, second; Hensley,
Exira, 3rd. Time 5 1/2 seconds.
75-yard-dash--F. Wells, Exira 1st;

Exira, 3rd. Time 9 1/2 seconds.

onds.

lantic, second.

Dressing race--Adrian Corl, Exira,
1st, and Camblin, Atlantic, 2nd.
Knot tying contest--Littlefield,
Exira, 1st; Herbert, Griswold, 2nd;

1st, with record of 41 letters per
minute. No other troops furnishing
a scout able to qualify.
Semaphore signaling--won after a
spirited contest by Herrick Fulton,
Exira, 1st; Hensley, Exira, 2nd, with
a record of 57 letters per minute in-
cluding Q signals.

The Exira Scouts may well be
proud of their record and if the rain
had not been so prolonged they would
have no doubt won 25 points more
on their splendid camp. At the vote
on next year meet, Scoutmaster Voss
was unanimously elected chairman of
next year's Southwestern Iowa Scout
Rally and Field Week Meet to be
held during the first week in August.

ber of times, with Littlefield and Var-
ney a close second. Fulton and Hens-
ley third. F. Wells and Lohner got a
sudden insiration and won first on
Friday.

The cooking was far above average
and behaviour was very good.

B. Hensley ranked high as officer
of day and also proved the surprise
of the meet by his signaling.

Thanks to our signal corps, Scout
Varney, we were well equipped with
electric lights, etc. Scout Littlefield
held up Exira's reputation by defeat-
ing all entries in knot tying, letting
them name the knots and methods.

Carlson, Exira, a close second, in
standard knot tying. Scout Basham
a real wild west rider in the pony
relay.

Our scouts won the ball game Fri-
