Vernice George Gray, 87, Carroll, died at the Carroll Health Center in Carroll on October 18, 2000 following a lingering illness. Funeral services were held Saturday, October 21, 2000 at the Dahn & Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll with Pastor Alan Miller officiating. Interment was in the Carroll Cemetery. Military honors were given by the Maurice Dunn Post of the American Legion. Vernice was born September 21, 1913 at Carroll, the son of Charles J. and Laura Bailey Gray. He was married to Mildred Heuton on April 23, 1946 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll. He was a veteran of WWII having served from 1943 until 1945 in Hawaii as a maintenance engineer. He had been a resident of Carroll Health Center since 1995. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll and attended Carroll Schools. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, bingo and his many trips to Swan Lake Park. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mildred in 1978 and five sisters: Alice Gray, Esther Bainter, Leota Farrell, Viola Anncar, Irma Sanders and four brothers: Leonard, Floyd, Arlo and Rollen. Survivors include daughter Bonnie Gray of Carroll; a grandson Kevin Gray and his wife Amy of Glidden; a great granddaughter Tressy Parker and a great grandson Jason Gray, both of Glidden; a sister-in-law Bernice Warnke of Lake City and a brother-in-law Robert Heuton and his wife Margaret of Mission, Texas.
