Lloyd Thede was born December 27, 1926 at Carroll, Iowa, to Albert and Laura (Sporleder) Thede. Lloyd was received as a child of God through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism on March 6, 1927. After proper instruction in the Christian faith, Lloyd publicly affirmed his faith in the Rite of Confirmation on March 16, 1937, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Carroll, under Pastor Hinck. Lloyd received his education in Carroll Public Schools and then served in the Navy for 12 years during World War II and the Korean Conflict doing shore patrol in Guam and Japan. On June 18, 1950, Lloyd was married to Marian Ranniger at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll with Pastor Hinck officiating. Lloyd was a letter carrier for 28 years with the Postal Service. He also was a Carroll School District bus driver for 12 years. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he served as a past president of the Christian Fellowship Society and was a former Finance Secretary for the congregation. He was a member of Maurice Dunn Post No. 7 of the American Legion in Carroll, the Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Manning and the Order of the Arrow (BSA), a member of the American Legion Honor Guard and past commander of the Carroll VFS post, a former scout leader and member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. On Tuesday, march 8, 1994; Lloyd Thede departed this life as a child of God, entering that eternal home prepared by our Lord Jesus Christ. His body will be laid to rest in the Carroll City Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Marian; three daughters, Meg Snyder and her husband, Darrell, of Breda; Rebecca Rybicki and her husband, Dennis, of Columbia, South Carolina; and Karen Hyde and her husband, Jack, of Casper, Wyoming; one son, David Thede and his wife, Phyllis of Davenport, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; three brothers, Glen Thede and his wife, Dorothy, of Des Moines; Wayne Thede and his wife, Mary, of Hiawassee, Arkansas; and Harold Thede and his wife, Dorothy, of Denison; two sisters Arlene Lange and her husband, Tony, of Hayfield, Minnesota; and Darlene Williams and her husband, Keith, of Unionville, Missouri and a sister-in-law, Mildred Chute and her husband, Mike, of Ankeny. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Lisa Marie; twin siblings in infancy LaVonne and Lavene; two brothers, Donald and Vernon, and a sister-in-law Viviane Thede. “Blessed are those who die in the Lord. Blessed, indeed, says the Spirit.”
