John "Sonny" Wernimont, 79, died Saturday, October 31, 2015 at Shady Oaks Care Center in Lake City.

Mass of the Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Auburn. Con-Celebrants were Father Lynn Bruch and Father Larry McCarty with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.

Visitation was held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Lampe Funeral Home in Lake City with a scripture prayer service at 7 p.m.

John A. Wernimont was born on June 2, 1936 in Lake City, to John Frank and Mary Ann (Fasbender) Wernimont. He graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in 1954 and then served four years in the United States Air Force. Sonny worked as a farmer all his life.

Sonny is survived by his son Jason (DeeDee) Wernimont and their children, Cameron, Joshua, Olivia and Luke of Auburn, Sharon Eccles of Auburn who shared his life for 25 years, and sisters Kathleen (Lloyd) Liatti of Cleveland, OH and Marian (David) Bowers of Sedona, AZ.

He was preceded in death by his parents John and Mary Wernimont, wife Joyce, brother David (Joleen) Wernimont and sister Dorothy (Ron) Putbrese along with three brothers at birth.
