Henry J. Happe, well-known farmer, succumbed at his home one mile east and one and one-half miles north of Carroll at 6:11 a.m. today, his death following his third stroke, which he suffered about 1 o'clock this morning. He had suffered his second stroke in March, 1941, and had recovered quite satisfactorily from its effects. He had been in Carroll yesterday and had taken his daughter home from school in the afternoon. Death came to him at the age of 60 years.

Funeral services are to be at 10 o'clock Monday morning at the St. Lawrence Church, with the Rev. A. J. Poeckes officiating at the requiem mass. Burial will be in SS. Peter and Paul's Cemetery. Pallbearers, all of whom are neighbors, are Hubert Hagemann, Ed Wernimont, William Thieleke, H. J. Simons, Leo Wiederin and Herman Imming.

The body will be returned at 1 o'clock Saturday afternoon from the Luft Funeral Home to the family residence, where it will rest until the time of the rites.

Mr Happe, who had spent virtually all of his life in Carroll County, was a son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Happe, pioneer residents. Born on the home farm west of Arcadia May 11, 1881, he attended St. John's School at Arcadia.

Feb. 3, 1914, he was married to Miss Katherine Schrad, daughter of Mrs. Herman Schrad of Carroll. The nuptial mass was read by the late Rev. Father J. A. Schulte at St. John's Church Arcadia.

Mr. and Mrs. Happe lived on a farm near Spirit Lake for the first two years after their marriage. They then returned to Carroll County and engaged in farming here. For the last fourteen years they have lived in their present home northeast of Carroll.

Mr. Happe, who was a member of the St. Lawrence Church, died well fortified with the last rites. He also belonged to the Holy Name Society of the parish.

Surviving are his wife and five daughters: Genevieve, who works at St. Joseph's Hospital in Ottumwa; Mrs. Edward Schumacher (Mildred), near Willey; Lillian, Ft. Dodge; Leota and Viola, at home; one granddaughter, Marilyn Schumacher; five brothers, John, Burlington; Chris, Granville, Wis.; Frank, Spirit Lake; George, Scranton and Dick, Carroll; and three sisters, Sister M. Elaine, Clinton; Mrs. Philip Jenson (Katherine), Stuart, and Mrs. Elmer ?? (Caroline), Avoca.

Three sisters and one brother preceded him in death. They were Ann, Elizabeth, Mary and Joseph. Joseph died during the First World War.
