Manning- Funeral service for Luella "Toots" Knight of Corona, Calif., will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 29, 2000, at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning. Mrs. Knight, 79, formerly of Manning, died of pulmonary disease Aug. 25 at Corona Regional Medical Center. Pastor Daniel Vogel of Zion Lutheran Church in Manning will officiate the service. Honorary casket bearers will be Patty Tanner, Joelle Handlos, Lisa Stoffers, Jackie Werner, Randy Smith, and Meribeth Lewis. Burial will be at Manning Cemetery.

A daughter of Harry and Ella (Fischer) Shadem, she was born Sept. 2, 1920, on a farm near Manning. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. She attended country school until 1929 then attended Manning public schools, graduating from high school there in 1939. She then moved to Omaha, Neb., and worked at the Martin Bomber Plant. She met Merle Knight while living in Omaha, and the two were married March 9, 1946, a Kansas City, Mo. The couple lived in Manning a short time before moving to Council Bluffs, where Mrs. Knight worked at the Ben Franklin Store. While in Council Bluffs the family belonged to Timothy Lutheran Church. In 1966, they moved to Edmunds, Wash. Mrs. Knight was a homemaker. She enjoyed garage sales, collecting coupons and playing bingo. The couple moved to Corona in 1990 to be near their youngest daughter. In 1997 they moved back to Manning but returned to California after a year because of Mrs. Knight's failing health. She entered the Corona Medical Center in August 11 days before her death. Mrs. Knight is survived by her husband, Merle "Butch" Knight of Corona; three children, Barbara and her husband, Larry Handlos, of Manning, Dorothy and her husband, Dean Smith, of Olympia, Wash., and Cathy and her husband, Scott Davis, of Riverside, Calif.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and an uncle, Herman Fischer, of Manning.
