David George Vogl

Mass of the Christian Burial for David Vogl of Carroll will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning with Father James McAlpin serving as celebrant. Mr. Vogl, 49, died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital following a five-year battle with cancer. Visitation will be after 3:30 today with a Rosary at 4 and prayer service at 7:30 at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning. Interment with military honors will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Manning with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3517 and the American Legion Post 22 providing military honors. Casket bearers will be Butch Hugeback, Mark Patzner, Ron Lutwitze, Tom Walters, Dale Pfannkuch, Michael Brincks and Mike Rohe. Honorary casket bearers are Ron Vogl, Pat Vogl, Bill Vogl, Jake Muhlbauer, Wayne Sell, Jason Bogl and Paul Cumpton.

A son of Felix Sr. and Hilda (Kasparbauer) Vogl, he was born May 11, 1953, in Carroll. He grew up near Manning and graduated from Manning High School in 1972. On Nov. 10, 1972, he enlisted in the United Sates Army and attended basic training at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri. He served as a vehicle mechanic in Korea and Fort Bragg, N. C., before receiving his honorable discharge on Nov. 7, 1975. He then retired to Iowa and worked as a tractor-trailer mechanic at Crouse Cartage Company in Carroll until 1998. He was a member of St. Lawrence Parish in Carroll, a member of the American Legion Post 22 and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3517, both in Manning. Mr. Vogl enjoyed deer hunting, watching old television shows and working on his cars and pickup. Mr. Vogl is survived by brothers and sisters: Ron Vogl and his wife, Gay Lynn, of Manning, Judy and her husband, Jerry Muhlbauer, of Halbur, Dory and her husband, Wayne Sell, of Silver City, Marge and her husband, Paul Cumpton, of Omaha, Neb., Pat Vogl of Council Bluffs and Bill Vogl of Neota; 13 Nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. Besides his parents, Mr. Vogl was preceded in death by a sister, Joan Malone; two brothers, Paul Vogl and Felix Vogl Jr.; and grandparents, Paul and Catherin Kasparbauer and Anton and Grace Vogl.
