Funeral services for Marlene Joyce Jones were held Friday, Feb. 2, at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. Mrs. Joens, 55, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 1990, at the Valley Manor Care Center in Montrose, Colo. Burial was at Manning city Cemetery. The Rev. Robert Riggert officated the services. Organist was Paula Weiss, and vocalist was Margaret Backhaus. Casket bearers were Jeff Joens, Brad Wendelboe, Kent Nulle, Roger Joens, Kevin Nulle and Todd Nulle. Ohde Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Born Sept. 20, 1935 in Manning. Mrs. Joens was a daughter of Harry and Leona (Struve) Nulle. She spent her childhood in Manning and graduated from high school there. On Aug. 17, 1952, she was married to Robert Henry Joens in Manning. She was a member of the Montrose Zion Lutheran Church, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, and also a sorority. In April 1973, she moved to Steamboat Springs, Colo., and in 1976 she moved to Montrose. Colo., where she lived until her death. She was employed as a senior union representative for IBEW International brotherhood of Electrical Workers. She represented employees at Colorado-Ute, Public Services co. of Colorado and other electrical contractors in Colorado. She is survived by her husband Robert Henry Joens, of Montrose, Colo.; a son, Brent Joens, and his wife Regina, of Olathe, Colo.; two daughters, Lori Joens of Steamboat Springs, Colo., and Lisa Joens of Denver Colo.; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.
