MANNING - Merlin E. Struve, 69, a former automobile dealer here, died Sunday, June 3 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, at the Ohde Funeral Home Home in Manning with the Rev. Dennis Johnson, minister of the Manning Presbyterian church, officiating. Connie Siepker will be organist and Judy Joens vocalist. Burial, with military honors by Emil Ewoldt Post No. 22, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3517, will be in the Manning cemetery. Serving as casketbearers will be Daryl Genzen, George Graves, Orrin Ramsey, Marvin Wiemann, Jack Lorenzen and Gerhardt Voge.
Mr. Struve is survived by his wife, Elaine, Manning; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Frances) Haack, Whiting, Iowa, and two granddaughters, Heidi and Heather.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Stuve was born February 11, 1915, near Manning, a son of John J. and Anna Marie Joens Struve. He graduated from Manning High School in 1933 and attended McSweeney School for Mechanics at Kansas City.
On October 9, 1940, he was married to Elaine Karsten. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Force. In 1947, he and his father established the Struve Motor Company in Manning, dealing in Kaiser, Fraser and Willey motor vehicles. Two years later they replaced Kaiser and Fraser with Buick. He continued in business until 1983, when his health began to fail.
Mr. Struve served as a trustee and an elder in the Manning Presbyterian church, was a member of the Manning Community School District Board of Education for 13 years, a member of the American Legion and was active in participation in the recent Manning Centennial celebration.
