Lorraine Marie Wenck, age 85, of Carroll, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Born on August 12, 1923, her mother’s birthday, at St. Louis, Missouri, she was the daughter of Oswald Rudolph and Clara (Junghans) Zeller. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith on September 2, 1923 and confirmed in the Lutheran faith on March 21, 1937 at Zion Lutheran Church in St. Louis. She attended public schools and Brown Business College in St. Louis. She was married to Vernon W. Wenck on July 27, 1947 at Zion Lutheran Church in St. Louis by Rev. Robert Lange.

She started working for Dolezal Insurance Agency on January 15, 1948 and continued through the merger of James Kratoska and Robert Dolezal. The firm is now known as Mid-Iowa Insurance and Real Estate. She retired in 1996. She enjoyed reading, music, playing cards, and embroidering and fishing. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church at Lidderdale where she held several offices and was active in the LWML. She was also a member of the visitation committee. Surviving are her sister Ruth Subbert of Carroll; one niece, and two nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Vernon in 2003, and a brother-in-law Lester Subbert. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lidderdale with Pastor William Weiss officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Friday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Saturday to lie in state until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Mrs. Agnes Onken. Casket bearers will be Richard Onken, Ronald Venteicher, Kathy Cavitt, Scott Wenck, Ron Roe, and Duane Kruse. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery near Lidderdale.
