Dec 26, 1928 - Carroll Times - Miss Anna Mary Brechwald died Monday morning, December 24, at 4:55 o'clock following a two weeks illness with pneumonia. In her death one of the noble women of the community has gone to her merited reward.

Miss Brechwald was born at Zornheim, Germany, 84 years ago, and came to the United States when 35 years old. Coming with her was her sister, a widow, and her three children. They located in Ida Grove where their two brothers and their families were living.

Miss Brechwald never married but made a home for three nephews and a niece, whom she guarded over with all the care of a devoted mother and had the pleasure of seeing them become respected and able members of the community.

The niece, who lived with her for 27 years, is Mrs. Roy Conway, who was Miss Josephine Henni before her marriage. The nephews are Joe Kanne, Carroll; John Kanne, Spirit Lake; and Charles Kanne, student at the St. Louis university, who will be ordained a priest in June. He is the only one of the four who is unable to return to attend the funeral.

During the 27 years Miss Brechwaid lived in Carroll she was a faithful member of the SS. Peter and Paul church. Her life was lived in service to others and her happiness lay in the Joy she could give another.

Besides the niece and nephews she is survived by a brother living at Steamboat Rock, Ia. Funeral services will be held at the Ss. Peter and Paul church Thursday morning. Attending the funeral besides the above mentioned are the Rohwer families of Schleswig, the Murphy families of Ida Grove, and John Brechwald, a nephew, of Cleghorn, Iowa.
