JNO. J. REINEKE MEETS DEATH BY SUNSTROKE

D EAD BODY FOUND IN FIELD TUESDAY

Was Cultivating Corn When Overcome by the Heat--Dropped Dead Behind Walking Cultivator, Where Body was Found by Brother.

-- -------------------

J.J. Reineke, whose farm is south of town, was found dead in his corn field, which he had been cultivating, at about 6 o'clock p.m. Tuesday. The discovery was made by his brother, who had been working in a field on an adjoining farm and who noticed that John's horses remained standing in the same place in the corn field for a considerable length of time. The brother drove to the barn and put up his own team and went to where John's team was still standing. He found the driver of the team lying on the ground back of the cultivator, where he had evidently fallen, and life was already extinct.

The day was an extremely hot one, the temperature probably reaching the highest mark attained thus far this season. The cultivator was a walking one and the exertion added to the terrible heat of the day doubtless brought about the fatal stroke. Mr. Reineke has not been in good physical condition for several years, although he has continued to do his work as a farmer. His impaired physical condition doubtless made him more susceptible to sunstroke than would have been the case if he had been in perfect health.

The deceased, who was forty-six years of age, was living alone and keeping house for himself on the farm on which death occurred and but for the fact that his brother noted the team standing in the field, his death might have gone undiscovered for several days. Under the circumstances, it was deemed best to report the matter to the coroner, who held an inquest Wednesday morning at which the facts above narrated were brought out and a verdict reached in accordance with them. The jury consisted of E.P. Lucey, S. Waltz, and M.M. Nagl.

His funeral will take place at SS. Peter and Paul church Friday morning at 9:30 and will be attended in a body by the court of the Catholic Order of Foresters of which he is a member.
