Earl Samuel David Dales was born November 20, 1881 at Newton, Jasper, Iowa to David G Dales (1856-1939) and Nancy Ann Veach (1860-1883); their only child. Earl had two half-siblings, Flora May (born 1899) and Logan David (1906-1992).

Earl found in the 1885, 1895, 1900, 1905 censuses living at Jefferson, Shelby, Iowa:
1885: Andrew Dales 61, Mary Dales 53, David Dales 28, John Dales 25, Sary Dales 19, Mary E Dales 18, Margarett Dales 16, Isabell Dales 13, Agness Dales 9, Samuel A Dales 3 (with his grandparents).
1895: Eare Dales age 13.
1900: John Veach 42, Mary Veach 34, Agnes Dales 24, Earl Dales 18, Daniel Ward 18. Says he is single, a brother-in-law of head John Veach.

Earl married Hazel Potter in 1903. The couple had 2 children: a son Gaylor and a daughter Grace (1904-1989).

Earl married Rhoda Moore on February 21, 1907. They had 2 children: Nancy M (born 1909) and Kenneth (born 1910).

Found in the 1910 census living at Gabe Rock, Banner, Nebraska: Earl Daler 28, Roda Daler 25, Nancy Daler 1, Kenneth Daler 5/12. Farmer.
Found in the 1915 census at Jefferson, Shelby, Iowa: Earl Dales age 33.

Earl Samuel David Dales died May 10, 1959 at Manning, Carroll, Iowa and was buried at the Manning Cemetery.

Obituary from Harlan News Advertiser, Harlan, Iowa, May 19, 1959:
Earl Dales, was born to David and Nancy (Veach) Dales on November 30, 1881 at Newton, Japser, Iowa and died May 10, 1959 at the age of 77 years, 5 months and 20 days.

When an infant, he came with his parents to Shelby county, Iowa. At the age of 2, his mother died and he was then raised by his grandparents. With the exception of five years he spent in Nebraska, he has made his home in the Manning and Shelby county area.

He married Hazel Potter in 1903 and to this union two children were born: Mrs. Grace Wilkins and Gaylor Dales, both now residing in California. He married Rhoda Moore in 1907 at Harlan. To this union two children were born: Nancy Michaeloen (sp?) and Kenneth Dales.

Survivors include his wife, 3 children 4 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; a half brother, Logan Dales of Des Moines and a half sister, Mrs Flora Trexel, of Littleton, Colorado.

Funeral services were held May 13, 1959 at the Ohde Funeral Home at Manning. Burial was at the Manning Cemetery. Rev. Lester Moore of the Manning Methodist church officiated.
