March 22, 1917 - Carroll Times - Miss Emma Mohler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Mohler of this city passed away at the home of her parents, early Sunday morning. For several years past she had been in poor health due to heart trouble and last spring suffered a stroke of paralysis. Last fall she went to Des Moines for a visit with her sister, Mrs. Hector Ross, and while there had a second stroke, although a lighter one than she had had before. She recovered and returned to her home and until a few weeks ago was able to be about as usual. At that time she took a severe cold, which develped into pneumonia and in her weakened condition, she had no chance with that treacherous disease.
Emma was born in Grant township, October 11, 1883, and came with her parents to Carroll in 1890. After graduating from the high school, she went to Cherokee and took a course in nursing training. About this time however she began to have trouble with her heart and it was discovered that she had leakage of the heart. She was a very loveable girl and was a devoted supporter of the Methodist church, of which she was a member almost all her life. Although her health did not allow her to enjoy many pleasures of young people, she never complained but bore her burden with a brave heart.
The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 at the Methodist church, Rev. Burton Shepperd conducted the services and a quartette composed of Mrs. C.C. Colclo, Genevieve Hoagland, G.S. and Frank Seyller, Jr., rendered beautiful music.
