Dec 19, 1918 - Carroll Times - Mrs. William Hillman, one of the early residents of Carroll, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J.A. Daugherty, Thursday morning, after an illness of several weeks, due to the infirmities of age. The funeral services were held at the residence Saturday afternoon at 2:30 and were conducted by Rev. T.E. Thuresson, pastor of the Methodist church, assisted by Rev. S. Grant Lewis, of Jefferson. Interment was made in the Carroll city cemetery.

Mrs. Hilman, who was Miss Martha Rennie before her marriage, was of Scotch-American origin, and was born in Lewis county, New York, October 5, 1832. She was one of a family of fifteen children. Her marriage to William Hillman took place November 10, 1850. They came to Carroll from an eastern state more than forty years ago and she has since made her home in this city.

Mr. Hillman died in April, 1891. She was a member of the First Methodist church in Carroll having united with this church twenty-four years ago and was a constant and devoted member. She took an interest in all the affairs of the day and was a woman who liked company and made friends easily, forming friendships which grew stronger as time went by.

Of the six children born to Mr. and Mrs. Hillman three survive, H.J. and Delmar, of Los Angeles, California, and Ada (Mrs. J.A. Dougherty) who was her mother's constant companion and under whose loving care her last days were spent. She also leaves one brother, Thomas Rennie of New York state, and one sister Mrs. Mary Ann Greene, also of New York state. In addition there are ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
