August 17, 1935 - Mrs. H. W. Macomber, a former resident of Carroll, died at her home in Los Angeles, Calif., last Thursday afternoon. Death was attributed to advanced age. She was 96 years old last July. Burial will be in the Carroll cemetery beside the body of her husband, who died in 1919 in Los Angeles. A daughter, Mrs. John McGee will accompany the body to Carroll.

Born Katherine Swain Coombs at Waterville, ME July 28, 1939. She was united in marriage to Henry Ward Macomber of Milo, ME January 19, 1859. They came to Clarence, Iowa where Mr Macomber engaged in the hardware business. Later they came to Carroll where he established a law office. The Macomber family was promintent in business & social circles of Carroll, the home was on North Adams street.

She was a remarkable woman for her age. When 93, she took a ride in a blimp and witnessed the events in the progress of the Olympic stadium from the elevation of more than 1000 feet.

In the spring of 1931, Mrs Macomber tripped over a hose in her garden & sustained a broken hip. For many months she was unable to leave her bed. She was keen of mind until her last & was delighted to receive Carroll persons who visited the Los Angeles area.

Surviving children are 2 sons & 2 daughters: Frank L Macomber, Winetka, Illinois; Charles of Chicago; Mrs AE Whitten (Mamie) & Mrs John McGee (Edith), who live with their mother.

Three children preceded her in death: Hattie B, Nov 11, 1861; Edwin J, August 20, 1868; & Wilfred H, Nov 10, 1882.
