April 10, 1918 - Carroll Herald - John A Shollenberger recieved word Saturday of the death of his mother in Denver. Her remains were shipped to Carroll, arriving yesterday and laid away in the Carroll cemetery.
Mrs Shollenberger last fall came to Iowa and visited with her sons at Carroll and Marshalltown for serveral weeks, saw her old neighbors and was recieved with the greatest cordiality by all who met her. One of the delightful days she spent was in a visit to the old neighborhood in Washington Township where she reared her children and spent many of her best years after coming to the county from Pennsylvania.
She returned to Denver in November but was not permitted to enjoy good health thereafter. Her original trouble, asthma, was less acute, but other complications set in and she spent the last two months in the sick room. Her maiden name was Catherine Brobst, and she was born in Berks Co, Pa, 73 years ago. Her husband, J.M. Shollenberger, one of the early settlers of Washington Township, died in Jan 1917 and was buried in Denver.
The surviving children are the daughter Mary, and the sons John A, of Carroll, Benjamin of Marshalltown, and Robert B of Denver. She was a woman of fine mind and admirable womanly qualities, admired by all who knew her in the home and community.
