March 31, 1958 - Carroll Daily Times - Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the family lot in the Carroll city cemetery for Mrs. Vava Cooke Porterfield of Des Moines, formerly of Carroll, who died of a heart condition Saturday morning in Des Moines. The Rev. Walter E. Schiel, minister of the First Presbyterian Church here, will officiate graveside rites. Burial will be under the direction of the Huffman Funeral Home.

Mrs. Porterfield, who was in her eighties, was a daughter of John B. and Viola Cooke of Carroll. Her father was a lieutenant coloniel in the Civil War. She joined the First Presbyterian Church here Sept. 5, 1891, and transferred her membership Oct. 15, 1901, to the Presbyterian Church in Cape Girardeau, Mo., where she resided after her marriage to Dr. Porterfield.

Mrs. Porterfield lived in Des Moines with her sister, Miss Tolosa Cooke, who teaches in the city's public school system. She was employed at Younkers store until her retirement.
