August 10, 1960 - Carroll Daily Times - Mrs Edith C Park, 101, Carroll county's oldest resident died at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday in St Anthony hospital here where she had been a patient for two weeks. The body is at the Huffman Funeral Home where final rites are pending. Mrs. Park had been a resident of the Spieker Nursing Home here since 1952.

Mrs Park was preceded in death by her husband; three daughters: Mrs Fred H (Marian Edith) Culbertson; Mrs Merton L (Helen Ursula) Holley; and Fairy Belle Park who died in 1892 at the age of one year and five months.

Mrs Park was in the insurance business in Carroll for many years. She was formerly active in civic and social life. Her home was the setting for many social events in her younger days. Before building her home in 1915 at 926 North Adams Street, Mrs Park lived in the present home of the Strohm family on North Main Street. She was a member of Signet chapter No. 1 Order of the Eastern Star and Clio Club.

After the death of her husband, David H Park, Dec 7, 1910, Mrs Park took over his insurance business and wrote insurance until she was 90 years old. Although Mrs Park was known as Mrs Edith C Park, her name was Mrs Clemence Eda Park. She was born May 11, 1859 on a farm near Lenox in Iowa county, Iowa. Her father, Charles Otto Vette, who became a naturalized citizen, was born in 1830 in Spenge Westphalia, Prussia. He died in 1893. Her mother, Ursula Wilkens Vette, died in 1926.

Mrs Park attended rural schools in Iowa county. She received a teachers first class certificate from the county Superintendent of Iowa county on Aug 13, 1878. She taught until her marriage. Mrs Park also taught Sunday school in the Presbyterian Church here. She was a member of the New Church Swedenborg.

Mrs Park's marriage took place May 11, 1882 at Norway, IA on her 23rd birthday. Mr and Mrs Park later located in Carroll.
