Feb 10, 1898 - Carroll Sentinel - The community was greatly surprised yesterday when it was learned that Frank Patty was dead. But a few days before he was among us, and while not in good health he was able to be around. He went to Wright's hospital and on Sunday was operated on for appendicitis. The operation appeared to be successful and Monday it was thought he would soon recover. Tuesday it was given out that unfavorable symptoms had developed and on Wednesday it was learned that about midnight he passed away.

The deceased had suffered several more or less severe attacks from the disease for which the operation was performed. On former occasions treatment brought relief, but this time the attack was more aggravated than any of the former and an operation was determined upon. His brother, Dr. L.G. Patty, was with him at the time the operation was performed. The funeral services were held this afternoon at the home of his mother in this city and the remains laid to rest in the family lot in the city cemetery.

The deceased was raised in this city, graduated from the high school and entered the Agricultural college at Ames. Since leaving there he has been with his brothers, L.G. and C.C., at Fonda. He was an unusually bright and interesting young man and made friends with all who came in contact with him.

His brothers, sister and mother were present at the funeral today and were bowed down with grief at the sudden ending of a life so full of promise. His death was a sad surprise to his friends, who join with his immediate relatives in mourning the untimely end of one so young, so promising and so full of kindness and good cheer for his fellows.
