Mrs. Stevens was well known in Carroll, which had been her home for more than half a century. She was born Nellie M. Parsons, July 2, 1854, at Coldwater, Mich., a daughter of John and Jane Parsons. About the year 1880 she came to Iowa, and five or six years later to Carroll. For many years she was a teacher of piano.

Mrs. Stevens was married twice. At the age of twenty-three she became the bride of Will Hunter at Coldwater in the year 1877. After his death, she made her home at Carroll for many years with her brother, the late E.M. Parsons, who served as mayor of Carroll for a long time. In 1911 she married Henry C. Stevens, who passed away in 1922. Mrs. Stevens had lived in her present home on North Carroll Street for thirty-two years.

Surviving are three nephews: Charles H. Parsons and William E. Parsons of Carroll and Ezra M. Parsons of Wall Lake. Mrs. Stevens was a member of the Presbyterian Church.
