Elizabeth Thankful Hinckley 1839-1920

June 24, 1920 - Carroll Times - Elizabeth Thankful Parker was born in Lodi, Medenale county, Ohio, October 23, 1839, being at her death 80 years, 7 months, and 26 days old. She in early childhood, lived with her parents in Stukeley, Canada. Her parents died when she was seven years old, and from that time for several years she lived with her sister in Cynthia, in LaSalle county, Illinois.

She was married January 20, 1858, to Edward M. Hinkley. Four children were born to this union: Geo. Parker Hinkley, Nellie Florence, Frances Sarah, and Edward Mark Hinkley. All four of the children died between 1881 and 1896. Mrs. Elizabeth Hinkley united with the Presbyterian church March 8, 1887 and for many years was very active in all its activities.

Grandmother Hinkley departed this life June 19, 192O, after an illness of one month. Her previous health was good. She came to Carroll, Iowa, with her daughter, Frances S. Dunn in 1886. In her former home at Ottawa she belonged to the Congregational church.

She is the last of a family of fifteen children. There are five grandchildren: Mrs. Frank Hall, Mrs. Harold Sandbach, Leonard Parker Kriaser of Gary, Indiana, with the two granddaughters of Carroll, Misses Mabel and Frances Dunn.

Services were held from the Presbyterian church Monday at 2:30, Rev. W.H. Parker officiating. For many years Mrs. Hinkley maintained her home on Court street, her granddaughters. Misses Frances and Mabel Dunn living with her.
