Sept 29, 1940 - Carroll Daily - Word was received here this afternoon of the death of Miss Helen Shoemaker of Cedar Rapids, a former Carroll girl. Miss Shoemaker passed away at St. Luke's in Cedar Rapids after a long illness of heart disease. The body will be brought to Carroll for burial in the family lot in the Carroll cemetery. Services will be held here Sunday, but definite word as to the time and place has not been received.

Miss Shoemaker was a graduate of Carroll High School and Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls. A primary teacher, she had taught in the public schools at Manning and Jefferson before taking a position in the schools of Cedar Rapids, where she had taught for a long time.

Surviving are her father, L.L. Shoemaker, of Cedar Rapids, a brother, Louis Shoemaker, of Cedar Rapids, and two sisters, Mrs. Waller Handy (Florence), of Des Moines, and Miss Gertrude Shoemaker, a music teacher in the Cedar Rapids public school system.

Her mother died about ten years ago. Miss Shoemaker was a cousin of Frank W. Seyllor of Carroll.
