March 21, 1918 - Carroll Times - William Allen was born September 2, 1845, and died March 11, 1918, at the age of 73 years, 6 months and 9 days. He was born in York State. His parents died when he was a small boy.

He was married to Elma C. Kingman, December 42, 1866, at Mazin, Illinois, and moved to Shelby county, Iowa, in 1882. To this union were born three children, Mrs. Ira Small and Ray Allen, of Dedham, and Edna, who died when she was thirteen years old.

His wife preceded him to the better land two years ago this month. The funeral took place Wednesday from the M.E. church here after which the body was laid to rest beside that of his wife in the Carroll cemetery.
